Second Annual Madison Avenue Gallery Walk

Fifty of the world’s most prestigious art galleries on Madison Avenue will open their doors for the Second Annual Madison Avenue Gallery Walk to raise funds for arts education in New York City public schools. Showcasing the breadth and depth of the collections represented by the world-renowned gallery community on Madison Avenue located between 57th and 86th Streets, New Yorkers and visitors can get a close-up experience of fine art. Highlights of the festivities planned will be free guided gallery tours for families and art lovers conducted by art teachers from New York City’s public schools, artist appearances and presentations, family programs and a silent auction of notable works of artdonated by the participating galleries. Organized by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District (BID), and sponsored by HSBC Bank USA, N.A. and New York magazine, the Gallery Walk will benefit The Fund For Public Schools , a nonprofit organization chaired by NYC Schools Chancellor Joel Klein and Vice-Chaired by Caroline Kennedy and Mortimer Zuckerman.
Gallery Tours depart from 11 to 4, on the hour, from the Event Information Centers located at the Fuller Building, 41 East 57 Street (at Madison Avenue) and Arader Galleries, 1016 Madison Avenue (between East 78 and East 79 Streets). Each tour runs two hours, and includes visits to approximately four galleries. Reservations are not required and the tours are free and open to the public.
Also at the Event Information Centers, receive a kid-friendly Art Scavenger Hunt sheet, complete with easy to find works of art in participating galleries. Find five of the artworks on the scavenger hunt, and return the sheet to the Whitney Museum of American Art and receive 2 for 1 admission to the Museum for May 16, 2009.
