The Jeannie McQueeny Collection is Supreme
Thursday May 28, 2009 | Contributor: Jennifer Wright

There are some (mostly unrealistic) things you imagine celebrities doing if you run into them at a party. For instance, at an event where a piano is in the room, I always picture Billy Joel strutting over and playing “Piano Man.” I also imagine Diana Ross, perhaps flanked by backup singers, engaging guests in an impromptu rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but at Terry Allen Kramer’s party to celebrate the Jeannie McQueeny Resort Collection, Diana Ross did not sing. On the upside? Diana Ross was there!

Though she attended under less than perfect circumstances (her dog is apparently very sick – Ms. Kramer noted that she had called several times over the course of the afternoon, trying to decide whether or not she could come) Ms. Ross loved the collection. She noted that it was feminine and fun – and truly, the beautifully embroidered hand-made tunics will be perfect seaside wear this summer.  Fitting for a fashion house that began in the Bahamas.

Terry Allen Kramer’s granddaughters brilliantly modeled all the outfits, though Terry confessed that she’d love to see a selection geared toward a younger audience. Lady Eugenie Nutall, the designer of the collection, did say that she was looking into doing a lower cost line, but because every piece is handmade, it’s difficult to achieve the same quality on a reduced budget. Those interested in shopping for pieces from the group can visit the website. The clothes and accessories are also available at a limited number of boutiques and internationally at a number of high-end department stores.  The line is very popular at Harrods.

The party was filled with fashionable types, including Anne Dexter Jones, rock star wife and mother of Samantha Ronson, limping with an injured foot. She shared some of her own favorite fashion memories, and expressed a desire never to see the return of shoulder pads.

Marie Claire’s Jim Shi was in attendance sporting one of his ever festive bow ties. I was also thrilled to run into one of my favorite Vanity Fair writers, John Connolly, author of those edgy investigative, Mafia style pieces.

Theater buffs might be interested to know that James Nederlander, the veteran theater producer, was present, sharing details about his and Ms. Kramer’s upcoming production, a sequel to Phantom of the Opera. It’s called Love Never Dies and will be set in Coney Island.  I was surprised as I always imagined that the Phantom would not be making any other appearances considering the ending of the original, but the writers must have cleverly found a way around that.  Terry Allen Kramer promises that it will be a production “to die over.”

It was a truly supreme evening for everyone in attendance.
