A Sensational Party
Sunday June 28, 2009 | Contributor: Jennifer Wright

After its amazing party last week, Sabon may be my new favorite shop. A little odd, as I’m not a big fan of scented candles and body products—I live in fear of being an overly perfumed lady. I’ve even bypassed the Sabon soap samples handed out on the street. This event, however, which I attended with AskMelissa beauties Natalie Merkle and Beth Anne Macaluso, has made me a convert.

Sabon was feting the launch of an organic product line. As we entered its Soho shop, we were ushered over to the Sabon fountain, where we tried the rejuvenating sea salt scrub. Days later, I swear my hands still feel smoother. Then, it was on to the amazing variety of hand lotions. I fell in love with the organic butter cream. It’s heavy enough to moisturize the driest hands, but it doesn’t feel greasy—and its pleasant scent is even subtle enough for me. The new line not only feels great but is 90% organic, far above the 10% required to qualify as organic. So the products are as good for the planet as they are for your skin.

To truly pamper our hands, a talented masseuse gave us hand massages—and informed Natalie and me that we spend too much time typing on the computer!

Once we had indulged our sense of smell and touch, it was on to taste. There were delicious treats laid out by the Food and Femininity catering company. The delicacies complemented the Sabon products, using many of the same ingredients. The macadamia nut cookies were incredibly delicious, as were the lavender and olive oil cupcakes, though my favorite had to be the stilton and pear tartlets. Their tea-based cocktails also paired up with the products. I’d have the white rose mar-tea-ni any time!

The climax? The Sabon invitation had included a key with the promise of a chance to win a chest full of Sabon products. I had expected a random winner to be picked, but instead every guest got to try her key in the actual padlock on the chest, which was elaborately wrapped in chains.

Alas, I didn’t win. For now, I’m content with the goody bag hand cream, although I think there’s a good chance I’ll go back for the organic butter cream in the near future. Who knows? I may even take some soap samples while I’m there.
