Accordion pleats:
Want to look like a Greek Goddess? Pleated dresses will give you a positively regal style this holiday season. Ideally, these creases should be made with luxurious fabrics and stylish silhouettes. For some great examples look to the pleats exhibited by Calvin Klein in a wide array of gorgeous shimmering fabrics, and by Jason Wu in a more muted halter top. You can also get the look in a less expensive version with dresses by BCBG Max Azria. These are made with more day time fabrics and colors. BCBG shows that pleats can be used on every part of a dress: sideways, just around the neckline, or the whole dress pleated either in a boat neck or halter top (my personal favorite). If you want to add a bit of nonchalance to the pleated look, try a two toned double sided belt like the one that comes with these BCBG dresses. The sleep ponytails the models were wearing at the BCBG show also compliment the style perfectly! With those accessories you won't even need jewelry and will be free to have all the focus on your gorgeous face. |

Hound's-tooth:
J'adore Dior! Ever since John Galliano took over the reins at the house of Dior, this old fashion house has been rockin'! Galliano has designed the most incredible Jackie O hound's-tooth dress that is trimmed in black patent leather and has double buttons going down the front. This is the dress for this season. It conjures up Mad Men and a (clothed) version of Dita von Teese. You can look like a sex kitten while still being totally, appropriately covered up. Now that's great style! Pair it with a short hairstyle, or a 1950's or 60's updo. |
Cut out boots:
I know most of you will balk at this, but the cut out boots, especially by Alaia and Marni are just so funky! If the rest of your outfit is a bit toned down, anyone can really pull off this look. This trend is basically just an extension of last summer's gladiator sandals, which is definitely not over yet. Everyone is just so tired of the plain pumps and this way, instead of purchasing whole new outfits, you can just buy a pair of shoes, which is a whole lot more fun anyway. I love the pale grey suede Alaia booties with black opaque tights; the criss cross showing so prominently. Sigerson Morrison also does a full black boot made solely with strips of horizontal leather! |
