The Boyfriend Jean:
I know you all were wondering what Katie Holmes was doing wearing those baggy jeans rolled up everywhere, I certainly was. But she definitely started a trend.

A trend that will cost basically nothing. I have a pair of old Rogan jeans that are roomy in the thighs that I haven’t touched for 3 years. I rolled them up to my mid calf, be sure to do it kind of messy, put on a wife beater t (hanes will do) and a funky blazer (you can get a fitted one at any vintage store for less than $20). The shoes are what’s key in this look. You have to do some sort of platform. Whether it’s the new peeptoe bootie by Marni or this season’s version of the gladiator. A wooden heel would be fabulous!

Burberry Stud Rainboots

Rain… rain…:
What to wear when it’s raining? You can still be stylish and casual when it’s raining outside. There is a plethora of rainboot styles out there. Even the old label London Fog (remember? For those of us who are in our 40s) has a fun black rubber boot that’s totally modern. Tretorn has an army green version with a beigy/orange wedge heel and if you want to do a more nude look, the iconic Burberry has the light beige version with gold hardware.

Wear any one of these with a trench from APC or Banana Republic and you’ll be styling even when it’s pouring outside.

Grey leather!:
Grey is everywhere this season and it’s definitely the new neutral. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sick of brown and black leather, whether on a shoe or a bag.

There is a grey leather bag at JCrew that is just “to die for”. It has the perfect amount of embellishment (tassles with gold hardware on the sides) and a finish that has a little sheen, so it looks totally high end.

I also love grey shoes and boots. At Diane von Furstenberg, there is a grey suede platform that crisscrosses in the front with a patent black architectural and chunky heel. The shoe totally hugs your foot and you can dance the night away! When you think neutral, reach for grey. It is a lot richer and unexpected than black or brown anyday.
