MAY EVENTS

Walk to Defeat ALS
Hudson River Park
Saturday May 16th
Walk Check-in: 9:30 AM
Walk Starts: 11:00 AM
Distance: 3.1 Miles
The Walk program funds important services and programs for people with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and their families, as well as leading, cutting-edge research.

Lymphomathon
South Street Seaport

Check-in: 9:00 AM
Walk Starts: 10:00 AM
Join hundreds of survivors and caregivers as they walk to raise funds and awareness for the Lymphoma Research Foundation. The Lymphomathon is a non-competitive 5K walk where survivors, family, friends, community and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma. Funds raised by participants will support the Foundation’s mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by this disease.

AIDS Walk New York

Enter the park at East 59th Street and Fifth Avenue
Since 1986, AIDS Walk New York has raised more than $100 million for HIV programs and services in the tri-state area, and has grown into the largest AIDS fundraising event in the entire world. In 2008 alone, 45,000 participants, many of whom were members of 2,400 corporate and community teams, raised a record sum of more than $7.3 million for Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and 50 other tri-state area AIDS service organizations.

11th Annual Boy Scouts of America 5K Run/ Walk
Central Park

Registration/Check In 5pm at 67th Street/West Drive
Race begins 7:00 PM
Race will be followed by food and drinks at Mickey Mantle's.
Join the race to support boys and girls scouting programs in New York City which serve society by helping to instill values in young people and in other ways to prepare them to make ethical choices during their lifetime and to achieve their full potential.

Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk
Battery Park

Great Strides: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest national fund-raising event. Since the first Great Strides walk in 1989, more than $180 million has been raised to support the vital research and care programs of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help find a cure for CF. In 2008, nearly $37 million was raised to support vital CF programs.

Hearts & Minds End Poverty Walkathon

Walk to end poverty, exercise and have fun! 10K (6.2 mile) walk. Think Globally, Walk Locally.
Second annual End Poverty Walkathon along the little-known Hudson River Greenway in Hudson River Park. Help millions of people lift themselves from poverty by raising funds for the most achievable program to help end extreme poverty worldwide.

The Start! Wall Street Run & Heart Walk

The Start! Wall Street Run & Heart Walk is a 5K (3.1 mile) competitive run and non-competitive walk to raise awareness and funds to support the American Heart Association's mission to build healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke – the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers. Start! is the American Heart Association’s groundbreaking national campaign that calls on all Americans and their employers to create a culture of physical activity and health to live longer, heart-healthy lives through walking. Promoting physical activity through workplace walking programs can help employees reduce their risk for heart disease and stroke and lead longer, stronger, healthier lives.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s 3rd Annual Rock & Run on the River

A fun-filled day of fitness, food, and entertainment at this inspirational 5K run/walk and survivorship celebration. Proceeds from the event support research, programs, and services provided by MSK's Cancer Survivorship Initiative. Today, more than 12 million Americans are living beyond cancer.

Diabetes Tour de Cure
Morningside Park

Since Tour de Cure's beginning in 1991, thousands of individual riders and teams have participated to support the American Diabetes Association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all those affected by this disease. With 1.2 million New Yorkers affected by diabetes, put your pedal power to work. The Tour begins in Morningside Park on the Upper West Side and continues to the Cloisters in Fort Tyron Park. For those seeking a longer distance, our 32 mile route will take you into the Bronx through some of its more famous landmarks like the Bronx Zoo, the NY Botanical Gardens and Van Cortland Park. If you're looking for a greater challenge, the 62 mile route will take riders through some of the most amazing landscapes, lakes and mansions of southern Westchester County and will provide a difficult but refreshing trek.
