Earth Day in Central Park 2009 Green in NYC
Central Park is greener than ever! Celebrate Earth Day with the Park's Conservancy in the heart
of the nation's most visited urban green space -- New York City's Central Park. Learn about the
Conservancy's environmental initiatives through live performances, planting and mulching
projects, tree care and composting demonstrations, environmental education, and crafts with
recycled materials. This is a FREE event for ALL AGES.

Rock the Bike
Entertainment brought to you by you! Yes, you can be a part of these performances too. Hop
onto one of the Central Park Conservancy's Green Fleet bicycles to help pedal Rock the Bike's
human-powered sound system into life for the first time on the East Coast.
Inspired to do some biking of your own? Ride your bicycle to the event, and receive
complimentary valet bike parking provided by Transportation Alternatives.
Fun Activities
Mini-landscape planting and container decorating with the Conservancy's Environmental
Stewardship Committee. Take a piece of Central Park home with you!
Tree climbing and knot demos under the canopy of historic American Elms with Josh Galiley,
the Conservancy's Tree Care Expert.
Mulching and flower planting to beautify Central Park.
Walking tours to Central Park's "quiet zones" with Gordon Hempton, the author of "One
Square Inch of Silence."
"Art of Reuse" craft workshop with Materials for the Arts.
Wildlife corridor games with Urban Park Rangers and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Worm bin composting demo with the Lower East Side Ecology Center.
Yummy Local Food
Yummy local and organic snacks available for purchase from some of our favorite
Greenmarket vendors including Red Jacket Orchards and Bread Alone. Organic waste will be
collected for composting.
Electronic Waste Recycling
Drop-off your electronic waste for recycling with the Lower East Side Ecology Center at West
67th Street and Central Park West.
All events are free and open to the public.
Earth Day in Central Park will happen rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, select
elements of the event will happen under Bethesda Terrace, mid-Park at 72nd Street.
